normal.dot shows in recently opened documents

The other day, I noticed that the "normal.dot" was at the top of my recently
opened documents. It has remained there ever since. I understand that when
you open Word it opens a new document and that new document uses the
normal.dot as its base. What I don't understand is why, suddenly, it has
started shoing in the recently opened docs.

Does anyone have an idea or a fix?

TIA

Are other documents you open showing up in the recently used files list? Or,
does the list look like it's "frozen"?

Sometimes, the list gets corrupted. A simple fix *sometimes* is to turn the
list off and on. Choose Tools - Options - General tab, and remove the check
next to Recently Used Files. Click OK, and then verify that the list is
empty. Then turn it back on.

If the list now functions correctly, except for the fact that Normal.dot is
still being added, then I would suspect that an add-in or a macro is
accessing normal.dot... possibly even a macro virus. If your a/v software
isn't up to date, then update it, and scan for malware.
