We have a folder on our server that contains all the templates we use for
Word 2000. There are 2 users on the network that are getting normal.dot
errors. One error is the global normal dot file has changed do you want to
save it? The other message is that the normal.dot file is opened by another
user. This happens when a file is opened, changes made, then closing Word.

This has been very frustrating. There is a normal.dot file on the users
local computer, but there is also a normal.dot file in the template folder
on the server.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem?

First check their User Templates location under Tools/Options/File
Locations and make sure it is pointing to their local drive. If
templates located on the network need to be accessed then use the
Workgroup Templates location.

Once that is verified or modified, then remove Normal.dot from the
folder on the server so it's not available to Word. Normal.dot should
be local for each user and it wasn't designed to be shared.
