Normal.dot

When I open WORD 2003 I get an error message stating "The global template
normal.dot is already open as an add in program.

I have no idea wht this means. I could not find a way to eliminate the
message from occuring whenever I open WORD.

It appears that Normal.dot has been placed into Word's Startup folder (look
at Tools - Options - File Locations - Startup, then use Windows Explorer to
see what's in that folder). That folder typically would contain *other* .dot
files you want loaded when Word starts, but not Normal.dot, which typically
is located in the folder specifed in Tools - Options - File Locations - User
Templates.

Herb, thank you for the response. I only have folders in "Startup" and in
"User Templates". Normal.dot does not appear in either location.

You may have Windows set to not display normal.dot. You need to tell Windows
to show hidden and system files.

:
THe only files I keep hidden are the operating system files. Obviosly Word
creates the Normal.dot file when it's opened (if it wasn't there before). I
removed all references to normal.dot and the error message still comes on
every time I start Word.

It's not a question of your keeping it hidden. It *is* hidden in recent
versions of Word.
