Normal template

I have recently updated my pcs to windows xp sp3. Since doing this when I
close word 2003 it asks me to save changes to normal.dot. I have done this on
some of my pcs but I have one that is causing me a problem. Starting word and
printing takes a lot longer than it used to. I originally though it was the
print driver - which I updated. I then changed the default printer and it
started and printed as normal. I went back to the original default printer
and changed the path to a new normal template, that also worked correctly. I
decided to copy my autotext entries to the new normal.dot and when I saved
the template upon opening word the problem happened. I then removed the
autotext entries and still the problem occurred. It seems the only way to
resolve is to create a new normal template and not copy autotext entries
accross, but this is not really an option

Save your AutoText entry to a new template (let's call it AutoText.dot).
Move AutoText.dot into the Word Startup folder (you'll find the correct
location under Tools, Options, File Locations Tab). Restart Word. Your
AutoText entries are now available globally. It is best to keep normal.dot
nice and trim by placing customisations into other templates and putting
them into the Startup folder.
