normal template

Doug

I have searched for, deleted any bad normal.dot templates
and replaced them with a new normal.dot file (in
c:\programfiles\microsoftoffice\templates)which, when I
look at it, is set perfectly as I want it, at 12 pt font
and .5" margins. But when I open a new Word doc on my
desktop, it opens with 10pt font and much wider margins.
What gives? Thanks

Doug,

I suspect that you are not renaming or deleting the
correct normal.dot file. If you are using a windows XP
then the best way to get to the location of these
templates would be to by going to Start-->Run-->type in
%appdata% and hit OK. From this window double click on
the Microsoft folder-->Now Double click on the templates
folder. Here you should see all the normal.dot templates
that Word uses. Make sure there is only ONE normal.dot
present here(you can delete the rest). For the one that
remanains right click on it and select Open from the
Optins. This will open the Normal tempate. Here make the
changes that you want and make sure you click on the save
button and then close the template. Now when you restart
Word, you should see your changes being applied. Let me
know how this works out.

HOPE THIS HELPS !!

Regards,

Rizwan
