Normal templete

Is it possible to set up Normal template so that once a document is created,
it's location on hard drive is reflected, and changed automaticlly should the
location be changed?

I have inserted the footing, with the appropriate reference 'Insert Auto
Text' chosen ... which shows Normal's location. Upon saving the document to
a new name and location than Normal, it does not change from the Normal
showing.

I am working with a large number of documents, and am frequently moving them
about to different locations ... and would like to have that location printed
out whenever I make a copy ... that tomorrow may be changed ... thus
requiring the new location when that version is printed.

Don't know what you are doing - but the document will update on Print or on
Print Preview or on CTRL A (select all) press F9.

That's what I presumed too, but it does not do that.

First I redesigned normal template to reflect page numbers and location of
file. When saved, the normal template reflects just that ... where normal
template is stored.

Then, whenever creating a new document ... naturally using normal template
.... and saving that document, the location data does not change to where the
now saved document ... using the standard normal re-configured template
instead.

Thank you Beth. I have now activated that option. It was not chosen.

Then opened a document and saved it under a different name and different
location.

When closed and opened again, the footnote location data had not changed.

What am I missing/

YES ... I know! I've got that ... from the beginning.

My problem ... again ... is that the name and/or location ... or both ...
when changed does not show up. The original data remains
there......................

So .... how does one set-up the footer to 'detect' the new name, location,
etc.?

Are you able to update the field manually? That is, double-click the footer,
select the field, and then press F9. Alternatively, right-click the field
and select Update Field.

If you can't then perhaps the field is either locked or converted to static
text.

Yes I can Beth. Also, when doing the Print Preview, the new name, location,
etc. also is adjusted.

But, when exited, it seems that the file retains it's previous name ... even
though I saved it at a different location and with new name .... and opened
that one.

The only way I can get it to accept, and reflect the new name, is like you
touch on ... remove the old footer and start all over. But that defeats my
planned attempt to have the change be updated each time ... just like a
change to the document contents itself.
