Normal view: can't get "notes" pane or the left "slides, outline"

When I open a Powerpoint presentation, there's a "notes" pane on the bottom
and a "slides, outline" pane on the left in Normal View. When I close these
panes by clicking on the "x" on the left pane, I can't figure out how to get
them to appear again after when I need them.

Any help much appreciated!!!

At the bottom of the screen on either the left hand or right hand side
depending on your version of PowerPoint are three little icons representing
the normal view (one your looking for), slide sorter view, and the slideshow
view. Or if you click on view on the task bar, you will get the same
options.

Hmm, on mine, only the pane on the left has an X button. When when I click
it, there's a thin vertical bar on the left and I can drag it to the right to
get back the left pane that shows the slides.
