A style is listed in the drop own style list as normal
but the only one I seei n the dropdown list is body and
changing that does nothing. I can change any of the h1-6
tags. That works. But normal doesn't seem to appear
anywhere. I'd like to get all my 'normal paragraphs to
look the same but I can't.

That's because normal means the user's normal default font

You can change only what you see in the FP Design mode when you change normal (not what the use sees)
