Norton Internet Security interference with Word

Hi, folks,
I'm new to the newsgroup and I have a persistent problem
with Word getting hung up. I get the error message the
" The System is Dangerously low on resources" and "Winword
(not responding)". I also get frequent error messages
about the normal template. So it seems that NIS may be
corrupting the normal template in Word for some reason.

It seems related to Norton Internet Security as evidenced
by the fact that the problem disappears when I uninstall
NIS and reappears when I reinstall NIS (which has firewall
and antivirus in it as well). Also, none of the other
Office applications seem to be affected. I can open them
all up with no problems. It's just Word. I've
uninstalled and reinstalled Office. It was happening in
Word 2000, now I've installed Word XP Pro hoping that an
upgrade would resolve things and it's still happening.

Has anyone else had a similar problem? Is there some way
I can set up NIS or Word so that it doesn't keep getting
corrupted and hung up? I'm at my wit's end. If any of
you have NIS, you know how useless their tech support
website is...

Thanks,
Angela

Well NAV is a real pain in the butt and users have to disable to Office
Plug-in in NAV for Word to work correctly. Who knows what NIS may do.
Symantec seem set on deliberately screwing up Microsoft Office!

Hi Angela,

You don't need to uninstall Norton Internet Security and Norton AV to
correct this issue. :)

Just disable the "Office Plug-in" option Norton AV. Go to Norton
Options and you will find it in the Miscellaneous section.
