Norton & Word Hanging Problem Fix

All of a sudden Word was hanging up when opening the
program and when opening a document.

I finally got it fixed by doing the following:

Went into Norton and disable the office plugin, rebooted,
opened Word and it was fine. I went back into Norton and
enable the office plugin and Word still worked fine.

If anyone has this problem, try that to see if it
corrected the problem.

I have found that Norton "all of a sudden" does some
strange things to other programs.

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried it, and Word is opening -- but still hanging when opening documents and running extremely slowly. I'm still getting a message whenn Word is opening that Word is requesting a virus scan. I checked Norton's website, but there's nothing posted there either on how to correct this problem that occured "all of a sudden." Frustrating... Thanks for your help.

First search your local drive for: officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. As on the
Symantec site, it does not include information on Norton CE but it will
contain additional details on the unregister command if you need them:
