Hi everyone - I recently made an adjustment to my Enterprise Global
(expanding a column width) and checked my Enterprise Global back in.
When I re-open Project Pro and click Resources -> Specify People for
the Project I get the error message " Not a valid new name. The name
you have entered is also the name of an item of the same type in the
Enterprise Global. Please enter a different name. "
I have checked my organizer, and on the client side there is a
"Project Guide: Simple Resource Sheet". I have tried deleting this
view (not from the Global + cache, but the project itself), but the
"Simple Resource Sheet" respawns whenever I try to specify resources.
The previously mentioned error message always appears.
I have heard mention of deleting the global template and starting from
scratch, but I do not know which file this is, or how to do this if
the original global file is causing this error message to appear in
the first place (since I get the error message on both new and
existing projects).
I have created resources through publishing a project and allowing
Project Server to create accounts automatically for resources that did
not exist and by editing the checked-out global resource pool. I
understand that it is not possible to delete enterprise resource
accounts without running the SQL Stored Procedure presented on
TechNet, and I am able to delete enterprise resource accounts on
Project Server without any trouble this way. I noticed this error
occurring since I last ran the procedure and deleted a resource/user
account (which was also when I altered the column width). This
resource was unassigned to any existing projects. I'm not sure which
of these alterations caused the error, but judging by the previous
threads that have this same error I believe that it was the alteration
of the Entprise Global.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Matt
