I have installed Microsoft Office XP Proffesional on my
computer but graphics wont come up on my Word document. I
am running Windows 98SE. I can find where it lists all
the graphics that word supports including jpeg but it wont
do it.

What happens when you insert (or try to insert) a graphic?

Thanks Suzanne for posting your message, I am new at using
newsgroup so may fumble around some. I take computer
classes on line and like to copy them and paste on word
because I have weak eyes and can edit them there. When I
paste on word I get everything okay except I only get the
windows for the graphics and no graphics. Hope you have
some suggestions.

Hi Gene,

In Tools=>Options=>View if Picture Placeholders is
turned on you would see only a white rectangle where
each graphic would be expected.

When you copy text from the Web, you're not really copying the graphics,
just links to them. If you don't see them while you're online, then the
problem may be "Picture placeholders," as Bob suggests. To make the graphics
available offline, however, you need to select each one and press
Ctrl+Shift+F9 to unlink it. This embeds the graphic in the document.

BTW, Sparks, are you a ham radio operator?

I don't know if I am supposed to be answering the way I am
which includes everything that has been written before. I
didn't see anything from Bob and as yet haven't tried
again to bring up the graphics.
I was a radio officer in the merchant marine probably
before you were bonn (I have seen your picture). Was also
a ham for awhile but that is all in the past. If you want
to ask or tell me more feel free to use my e'mail address.
Just something in the subject so that I don't delete it as
junk mail.

It's usually helpful to include at least some of the previous content to
help latecomers follow the thread. My husband is a ham, which is why I
asked. And I was born during WWII, so we may have overlapped a little. <g>

Bob, I did as you said and found that placeholders was
checked so I removed the check. Tried copying a graphic
again (was optomistic) but doggone it, no luck. :-( Did go
back to make sure placeholders was still unchecked, it was.
Thanks for trying.

Unlinking it should still do the trick.

I owe both you (Suzanne) and Bob an apology. I found the
problem. I was paste the simpelist picture I could find.
It happened to be an .ART extension and Word doesn't
support .ART extensions. When I went to jpeg or gif it
worked fine. Thank you both so much for staying with me,
it is appreciated. Again, I am sorry I was barking up the
wrong tree.
