Not able to publish or checkin project

H

Hari

Hi Experts,
I am trying to open a project schedule from Project server 2007 to MS
Project 2007 Professional. When I try to save and publish the project doesnt
save/publish to the server. What do you think the reasons might be? This file
remains checked out, and tried to force check-in- but didnt work - Status
shows: Waiting to be processed.
I even tried, Manage queue and getting enqued options, but it still didnt
work and I am trying to check-in this project. Several items in Queue show,
"Waiting to be processed", but didnt notice any getting enqueued file.
Any suggestions on what might be the problem?

The source of your save and publish problem is the fact that jobs are
"stuck" in the Queue, blocking the save and publish operation. You need to
determine why the jobs are stuck. If you need help with this, post a new
question in this newsgroup with pertinent information about the first few
jobs in the Queue that are waiting to be processed. Hope this helps.

If the job is waiting to be processed then there is another job stuck in the
queue before this job that is either "Failed and blocking","Getting Queued"
or "Processing". Note the queue position number on the "Waiting to be
Processed" job. You need to find the on that is in queue position 1. This
might mean you need to look a few days or even weeks back in the queue. The
view filters for today only by default. You need to expand "Job History"
and change your "From" date back and hit the "Refresh" button.

Thank you guys!
The queue position 1 shows "Waiting to be processed". This was sitting there
for almost a day. I did try "Retry jobs" and also "Cancel jobs", but none of
them worked.

At the very first place, why am i not able to save or publish projects on to
the server? When one of my collegue tried saving and publishing, he was able
to save it.

Position "1 & 2" says Job Type : Project Checkin
Job State : Waiting to be processed.

I am not able to delete the stuck projects from the server as well.

It is highly unlikely to me that there isnt' another job in one of the
following states that is hanging the system.

Blocked Due To A Failed Job
Failed And Blocking Correlation
Getting Queueud
Processing

Can you set the Job Completion States to only include the 4 states I
mentioned above and really open up the Job History filter by setting the
From: date back a few months. Then click the Refresh Status button.

See if anything returns with tese filters on.

Hi Jonathan,
I see "Waiting to be processed" and "Processing"

Queue entry time: 07/17/2008 1.00 am, 07/16/2008 9.00 am
Owner: SharePoint Synchronization User
Project Name: N/A
Job Type: Reporting (Resources Capacity Range Sync)
Job State : Waiting to be Processed

Queue entry time: 06/18/2008 7:05 am
Owner: SharePoint Synchronization User
Project Name: N/A
Job Type: Reporting (Resources Sync)
Job State : Processing

There are about 18 such items in the Queue. I cancelled the jobs "waiting to
be processed". But am not able to cancel jobs that are "Processing".

Any suggestions would be of great help.
Thanks!
Hari

0% complete and it is almost 2 weeks old.
Tried restarting as well, but didnt work.
I cant login to Server, as I am not authorized to. I will concat our IT
admin to clear the job.
thanks,
Hari

We've had this problem as well
You need to make sure that you go into the Advanced Options in the Manage
Queue. Here you can check the box for jobs getting enqueued.
Once you do this - all subsequent jobs for that project will cancel. You
will then be able to force check the project in.

You can get really frustrated when you keep canceling and nothing happens!!

one more note -- make sure the user clears their cache...
perhaps the new hotfix will make this a less often requirement :)

Donna,

Unfortunately, a job that is stuck in "Processing" cannot be cancelled from
the Manage Queues. Even if you enable the advanced option to cancel jobs
getting enqueued. That only cancels jobs that are in the "Getting Queued'
state.

Hari,

After your IT guy restarst the queue services on the server have him
validate on the server under Task Manager>Processes tab that you have 2
"Microsoft.Office.Project.Server.Queueing.exe" jobs running. If there is
only 1 running, this means your queue services are not functioning
correctly.

Was this a functioning PWA installation? What I mean is there PWA installed
on this system?

Have you tried restarting the queue servcies to see if this fixes the issue?

After that, try rebooting the server.

Let us know what you find out.

Yes the PWA was functioning. I have started and stopped the existing
services. I have rebooted. I have also tried to turn on the ULS logging but
not sure what settings to use.

Resolution:
The installation process created services using the Database user account
info. The services need to use the SSP account information.

So I changed the Logon information for:
- Microsoft Office Project Server Events Service
- Microsoft Office Project Server Queue Service
and then restarted teh services. All is good now.
