not able to set appointment in Outlook?

So, you click the button to create a new appointment while in the Calendar
folder and nothing happens at all? First thing to try would be to run a
Detect & Repair operation from the Help menu

I have the same problem, tried the Detect & Repair (thanks for
the suggestion), which succssfully finished, but I still can not
make a new appointment. I can select (highlight) a time slot
within a day, but neither a right-click ==> New appointent or
"New" from the standard toolbar nor "Actions....New Apointment
yield any results???

Tried scanpst.exe, still nothing, then
I found a duplicate OUTLOOK in taskmgr -
blasted that sucker (can someone please
attend to the Windows memory management
snafus) and back in business.

Extra Outlooks in Task Manager are a sign that some other app is keeping
Outlook open. See if something here helps:

Brian,
thanks for the tip and the informative link.
might be Norton, though often, Outlook
will successfully close with AV running
file system real-time and MSexchange
protection.
