Not able to use all fonts :'(

Hi,
I've tried this both on US english version and localized, with all
combination on US english operating systems and localized, Windows XP and
Windows 2003, but the result is the same.

If I want to change a font of the text, I select the text, and in the font
drop down I select the desired one (with correct preview). However, the text
remains unchanged, the font in the drop down remains the last one, only the
selected font is moved in front of the drop down list.
I can solve it by using te WordArt for some headings, but this couldn't be
done for most other things. I have managed that inserting the symbols one by
one of the font I want works well and the text is in that font. You know
writing whole text with Insert Symbol is unacceptable.

Is this known bug? Or how can I solve it?
Thanks, Jan.

Not all fonts are created equal. Where did you acquire the troublesome fonts?
Open WordPad and use the font, does it work okay?
There are fonts that have partial characters. Look at your character map, are
all the letters represented?
Have you tried uninstalling the fonts and re-installing them?
What about your printer, does it have built-in fonts?
TweakUI has a font folder repair utility, might try it. It is free.

Yes, they work in all other applications ok, both in wordpad and Word too.
Publisher is the only which gets in troubles. If the font doesn't have any
character, these applications do not display that characters (or substitutes
them with other fonts), but, Publiser does not display any characters,
including basic latin, numbers and so on. Remember it in fact does not
switch the font. (but they can be inserter via inser symbol)
"Only with some fonts", however, means still with very much fonts, I've
acquired them by various ways.
Reinstaling does not do, remember I've tried it on multiple combinations of
configuration.
Since Publisher actually refuses the change of the font, I cannot send them
to the printer by it, but a) doesn't have troubles from other applications
b) what if I do not need to print the publication.
Could try TweakXP, I'm familiar with it, but I'm afraid it does not correct
the font files, if they are bad, which I don't believe much.
I can try to find any windows built-in font which does not work or can post
any font file here.
If you are familiar with the font files, maybe you could tell me what
properties it has to have to work in the Publisher (whicg mappings and so
on).

Thank you for help,
Jan.

I use Windows XP with SP2 and Windows 2003 with SP1, so I think this is not
the problem. On different machines, same results.
I read the article you provided me, however there is no information about my
problem. Moreover this is Publisher-only specific problem, so I'm not sure
if general information can handle it.
But, it pointed me to the Microsoft Typografy web site, so maybe I could
find some technical details there, thanks.

I thought there are lot of people experiencing this problem.
If I have some time, I will find or post some font later.

Thank you for help.

If you use a font other than one of the "web safe" fonts then your site
visitor may view your content in a font their browser substitutes, which can
mess up your page considerably. To avoid that Publisher web publications
only allows the "web safe" fonts by default.

If you opt to ignore this web safe design feature you can disengage the safe
font setting. In a web publication go to Format, Font, and deselect the
"show only web font" option. Then all fonts on the system will be available.
