Not All Files Show up in Excel's Project Gallery -- Recent Files

When I launch Excel and click on the recent documents, show Excel
files, all ... a few of my .xls documenst show up both others don't.
For example yesterday I worked on two different old files and resaved
them both in esactly the same way. Today only one shows in the recent
list. I can open through "open other" button and when I do my list of
files in Excel -- at the bottom of the file drop down menu -- show my
recent files.

The files exist but they don't all show in the Project Gallery list.

Something seems strange.

Any thoughts?
