Not enough Conditional Formats

Ok, I've been charged with the task of coming up with a spreadsheet a
work to monitor attendance. They need to know how people fall int
certain categories when it comes to this.
There are around 9 categories that need to be on the sheet. I want t
be able to use Conditional Formatting with these categories so that al
anybody has to do is enter say "S" in a cell when someone calls in sic
and the color of the cell will change. That way we can have a quic
visual overview to breeze through and not actually have to hunt an
search for letters.
The problem is this...Excel apparently defaults to no more than
Conditional Formats per sheet. Does anybody know if/how I can increas
the number of Conditional Formats so I can use it on all nin
categories or if there is a different way to do the same thing wit
nine categories?
