Not enough memory or disk space to run Word - repeated message

I'm using the Word object to open documents and save them as text
format in a temp directory by repeatedly running a VB6 executable (with
no form). The Word object is opened and closed within this executable.
This process works OK for a variable number of documents (up to 800) ,
but eventually a window "There is not enough memory or disk space to
run Word" appears. Clicking on OK shows the Office Problem screen
"Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to clsoe".
Unchecking the Restart Microsoft Word check box and clicking Don't Send
removes the Screen, but the "There is not enough memory or disk space
to run Word" message re-appears after 30 seconds, or if I try to run
Word. Logging off and on again is required to stop the message from
appearing.

Is there some way of preventing the "There is not enough memory or disk
space to run Word" from appearing repeatedly?

Thanks for the pointer, but none of these conditions seem to apply.
Suggestions were

a) Check for template corruption

I've tried renaming Normal.dot to no avail. Also this doen't explain
why Word operates OK after logging out and logging in again, nor why
the message is repeated every 30 seconds, and only appears after
processing hundreds of documents OK.

b) Check for a corrupt registry key

Have tried renaming as suggested without any effect. Comment above also
applies

c) Check your printer driver

This would affect all documents if it were causing the problem.

d) Check for conflicts with Norton AntiVirus

Not using Norton.

BTW, I'm using the Word object from Office 11.0 on Windows XP
Professional (Office 2003)
