not enough memory or disk space when opening a file

Iam using Office v.X (word V 10.1.5) on a new PowerBook G4
with 512MB RAM and 80GB disk. Whwn I open a file more than
about 8 pages or when a small file is already open and I
try to open aa second (small) file, I get the message:

"There is not enough memory or disk space to complete the
operation"

Obviously this is not the case - any ideas?

Try closing and reopening Word. See
