If you have Office 2004, you must PURCHASE (I can shout too) Office 2008.
The downloadable update is to update 2008 to its current version. Since you
have Office 204, you can purchase an Office 2008 upgrade. Although this is
called an upgrade, it actually replaces the entire 2004 system.

Please do not post in ALL CAPS; it is the online equivalent of shouting and
is extremely hard to read.

You cannot update Office 2004 to Office 2008, which is why the Office 2008
update won't install on your computer. If you want to use to the latest
version of Microsoft Office, you will need to buy the Office 2008 *upgrade*,
i.e. a new copy of Office 2008.

Hope this helps.

Maybe it has something to do with your broken CapsLock key.

Hi, I am not the original user here but I wanted to comment here

I *did* purchase Office 2008 and installed it from disk and I also get the red bars whenI try to install updates

Any Ideas..? :frown:

Try asking a real question. What do the red bars look like? Do you get
an error message? What does it say? In the absence of information that
would help us understand--since no one can see your screen from here--my
wild guess would be that you don't have enough space on your hard drive.
