Notebook View crashes word

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) I use the notebook view to take notes, and now any time I try to open a document last open in notebook view or create a new notebook view document, Word completely crashes.

I'm really not sure what to do to fix it, and haven't found anything so far that has helped.

Thanks.

If you'd tell what you've tried it would help avoid redundant suggestions...
Of which, confirming complete updates of OS X & Office are among the first.

After checking you have completely updated, delete the Normal.dotm template.

Make sure you quit all Microsoft Office applications first, then Unless you
have moved it, Normal.dotm should be in
/Users/~/Library/Application Support/Microsoft/Office/User Templates/

Cheers

I have done all of the OS-X and Office updates available.

I deleted the normal.dotm template also and it still crashes.

Is it crashing in a new Notebook Layout document that you created AFTER
replacing the Normal.dotm?

Note: The more detail you give us about what's going on, the faster you
will get your answer. If you keep sending one-liners, this interchange
could last a week: during which you are not getting what you came for!

I am having this problem as well. What happens for me is that I open Word,
which will open a new document in print layout view, then I try to change to
notebook view by clicking on the button in the lower left hand corner, and
the program will crash.

Interestingly, I can open a document that I had created in notebook view
before this problem began, and I can create a new document in notebook view
from this document without any problems. However, if I take this old notebook
view document, switch to print layout view, then try to switch back to
notebook view, the program will crash.

After reading this thread, I tried deleting the Normal.() file, but it
doesn't seem to have made a difference. Is there anything I can do short of
reinstalling Word or Office on my mac?

You haven't given us the information we need to be able to help you.

Which version of Word are you using? What is its update level? Which OS
are you using? Update Level?

Deleting Normal.() will have no effect at all. You need to delete the
correct version of the Normal template for your version of Word.

Reinstalling Word or Office will have no effect at all on a Mac (probably
make the situation worse...) because the files that you need to change are
not on the installation disk.

Further to John's reply, what you describe is not at all the same as what
the originator of this thread claimed to be their problem. For that reason
it would be far better for you to post that information in a NEW message
rather than grabbing the coattails of this one.

.... And re-installing is rarely required to effect a solution. In fact, it
can complicate matters & cause other issues if not done properly.
