Notes - function cannot be peformed?

Frequently when I finish typing a note and try to close it I get these 2
message:

"The function cannot be performed because the message has been changed"

and after clicking OK,

"The note will close and your changes will not be saved"

I quickly learned to click CANCEL and then copy and paste my note info into
a new note. What is causing this problem?
