I have notes in my slides, but when I run the slide show and use the
presenter view my notes do not appear.   The note area is blank.

Where do you see the Notes? Do they show up in the 'Notes' area below
the frame in normal edit mode, or only on the Notes page?

If the notes were not typed in the Notes area (e.g. if a text frame
was added to the Notes page) they will not show up in the Presenter
view.

This may also happen if the presentation has been bounced back and forth
between 2003 (or previous) and 2007 versions of PowerPoint. Because they
handle the placeholders so differently, the program sometimes gets confused
and places the notes text into a regular textbox on the notes page.
