I was wondering if anyone else is having issues changing the color of the tabs in the Notebook Layout. I am able to see the menu when I right click on the tab, but when I click on the color I want nothing happens. I've tried troubleshooting the .plist file, the Microsoft file, the Normal template, and I did a reinstall and I still can't change the color of the tabs. I use the Notebook layout to keep all of my class notes, and this feature would really assist the organization of my documents. Please help!

Just to be sure of what you've already done ...

Did you troubleshoot the prefs and Normal template according to the
instructions here?

Exactly what did you do with the "Microsoft file"?

Reinstalling seldom solves these kinds of problems (and is not advised
without using the Remove Office tool first anyway).

When you right-click on the tab, are the color choices grayed out? Or do
they appear normal but nothing changes when you click on them?

I tested this in my setup (2008, OS 10.4.9, PPC processor) and had no
problem.

Hmm....no problem here, not previously reported on these groups, as far
as I know.

First of all, if you are keeping an entire semester of notes in a single
document, BACK UP that file regularly. Just email to a gmail account
periodically (end of the last class that week), if you don't have a good
backup system in place. People have reported such documents corrupting.

First thing to figure out is whether it's a problem with just this
document or with all documents. Can you change the tab color if you
create a new blank notebook document? What about other existing Notebook
documents?

I'm keeping separate documents for each class, so I don't have a semester worth of notes for every single class in one document. Also I do back up regularly. I spend pretty much all my time studying, so I'm constantly emailing myself the notes, and then printing them out so I can study them.

It's definitely not just a problem with this document. I've tried creating new documents, and I've tried editing old documents. The color won't change in any of the documents.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes I troubleshooted the prefs and Normal template according to the instructions in the link you provided. I only dragged the Word plist file to the desktop though, not the office one, will that make any difference?

For the "Microsoft" folder, I dragged it to the desktop. Then opened Word to check and see if the problem was fixed. After I discovered the problem was not fixed, I quit Word and replaced the Microsoft file.

And for the reinstall I did use the Remove Office tool first.

When I right-click on the the tab, the colors are not grayed out. They appear normal but nothing changes when I click on them. I also tried plugging in a mouse to see if the problem might be with my trackpad, but the same thing happened.

Thanks for your reply.

Yeah - Confounds me too, Beth. I've tried it in 12.0.0 & 12.0.1 each in
10.4.11 & 10.5.0 but have had no problem changing the color of tabs with
either combination.
