Nothing in cell only in formula bar

Why is it (2007) that sometimes when I type a formula (or anything for
that matter) into a cell nothing shows up in the cell, but it will
show up in the formula bar?

Could it be a formatting problem?

Try formatting the cell as General.

Look to see if you have conditional formatting applied to the cell.

Make sure that the font color and fill color are not hiding the contents (white
font on white fill would be a problem).

I thought I checked all of that, but perhaps I didn't. It's working
now, so I can't even remember where it was located. If it happens
again though, I'll make sure to check everything out that you
suggest--then if there is still a problem we can go from there.
