I am running Office 2000 on Windows XP Professional. It seems like after I
did our last XP update I am no longer receiving e-mails automatically. I
have to open a prior e-mail before any new emails are delivered to my inbox.

Any suggestions?

the (insert latest virus name here) virus, all mail sent to my personal
account will be deleted without reading.

After furious head scratching, Donna asked:
