notification when new mail arrive if outlook is not active

To set up a notification, go to Tools --> Options -->
Email Options and check the box 'Display a notification
message when new email arrives'. This can only work if
Outlook is open.

The only program I know of that does something like that is Outlock,
which is free but not supported or developed any longer. And it works
by opening an Outlook session in the background so even though the
footprint is somewhat smaller Outlook is still opened.

You can Google for Outlock if you are interested in checking it out.
