Novell Groupwise and Excel97 (GWXL97.XLA)

M

Matthew

Anyone who has information on the relationship between
Excel97 and Novell Groupwise please email me at
(e-mail address removed)

Specifically, the visual basic macro GWXLA97.XLA takes
over Excel and if you do not have Groupwise running excel
refuses to work. It starts up, but the features are
neutered and it's more aggrivating than a Microsoft
product should be (or normally is *coughwindowsXPcough*).

The OS is windows 98 with excel97 on one machine and
windows XP with windows2000 on the other. The version of
Groupwise is 5.5 (and it cannot be upgraded so dont bother
telling me to do that).

Any information would be appreciated in removing the macro
and restoring excel without uninstalling groupwise or
excel. Note: I've tried deactivating the integration
settings when installing groupwise but it still integrates
regardless. I've also tried renaming the file and
extension, modifying the registry also did not help.
Deleting the file worked temporarily then ph0cked
everything up a few days later.

Again, any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Hi Mathew,

As far as I know, if you remove the GWXL97.xla workbook from your
XLStart directory then Groupwise will no longer affect Excel (and Excel will
no longer work with Groupwise). Use Windows Explorer to search for this file
name, as there can be multiple XLStart locations on your machine.

Hi Mathew,

My memory is a bit hazy on this one, but I think Groupwise replaces a
bunch of your standard Excel menus and toolbars with its own, so you have to
remove those customizations as well as removing the file. After removing
GWXL97.XLA, open Excel and choose Tools/Customize from the menu. Select the
Standard toolbar from the list and click the Reset button. Scroll down to
the bottom of the list, select the Worksheet Menu Bar item and click the
Reset button again. See if that doesn't fix the problem.

I have exactly the same problem which has been frustrating
me for a month since I stupidly investigated said add-in
that I found in the Groupwise folder.

GWXL97.xla does not appear in any XLStart folder (neither
in Program Files nor under user settings) and if the add-
in is sent to Recycle Bin, Excel will not open any file as
it displays an error message because GWXL97.xla cannot be
found.

Please help as I would rather avoid having to have Office
reinstalled. I cannot repair as the information is not
sitting on the Novel network.

Many thanks,

Neill Wallis.

Hi Neil,

I'm just guessing here, but I think it's a pretty safe bet that Excel
has to either be fully integrated with Groupwise or completely removed from
it. I doubt there's any middle ground.
