Number Lists that automatically start in a new document

We have a user who is using Word 2000. Whenever she opens a new document the following appears no matter what

1. ab
2

Shown below are some solutions I tried with no luck
1. Deleted her normal.dot template and replaced it with someone else's thinking the problem resided in the template. It did not work

2. Deleted her settings and toolbar in the word registry thinking maybe the registry was corrup
(Folder: Current User; software; Microsoft; office; 9.0).
The registry re-created itself like it should but the problem persists

3. Turned of all automatic bullets and list

At this point I am hoping someone can help me solve this mystery.....any help is appreciated. Thank you

Word doesn't fabricate text from thin air. There are only two possible
causes.

1) The text is in normal.dot, or
2) There is an AutoOpen macro running in an add-in that inserts that text.

The problem is almost certainly 1). Word 2000 can be obtuse about where it
locates normal.dot, and it's not unusual to end up with several copies on
the machine. So the poor user who thinks they have deleted it, is sadly
mistaken.

But to test: go to Start > Run. Enter: winword.exe /a

That starts Word with NO templates or add-ins. This is just a diagnostic. If
Word starts correctly with no spurious text, do another search for
normal.dot.
