Number of e mails in folder

I sometimes notice that the indicator of the number of e mails in a
particular folder is not correct. Sometime, for example it will say (1),
when in fact, I have 30 e mails in a folder. Any ideas on this appreciated.
Thanks!

What version?

POP or Imap?

Unread Mail count or total mails?

I'm on OS 10.2.6 Entourage X service release 1; Pop up, total mails.
Thanks!

It is possibly an early sign of mild database corruption.

Hold down the option key when starting Entourage and take the first option
('typical rebuild'). If this doesn¹t resolve the problems, then try an
ŒAdvanced Rebuild¹.

Actually, let me know about the read/unread thing. Sometimes I create a new
folder and move ten e mails into it. Maybe they are read, maybe not. I
would like to see (10) in the window pane. But I don't
Thanks!

You mean down at bottom left, in the status line?

You should see a count of however many mails are being displayed - if you
have 'unread only' selected, or are filtering with the quickFilter at top
right you could see some other number there. This number is the total number
of mails being displayed, rather than the count of all mail in the folder.

Ok , we getting there now. I've never even looked at bottom left. I have
two folders, for example.
One is called BAD EMAILS (63)
And then at bottom left says 87 items displayed 0 selected.

How many e mails are in folder, 63 or 87?

Another folder called: GOOD E MAILS (128)
At bottom left says, 416 displayed 0 selected.

How many e mails in this folder 128 or 416?

Now I would think that the number on bottoms left is the real number of e
mails in the folder, so why in parenthesis does it say (63) and then (128)??

I'm an not using quick filter.
What does that mean "unread only" selected. I'm sure even where to find that
option, in any case it should not pertain, because none are selected
according to the bottom left correct? Thanks!

63 unread, 87 total.

128 unread, 416 total.

The number in parentheses that appears in the Folder List represents how
many unread messages are present in the folder. The number at the bottom of
the window is the count of the number of messages displayed, which is
usually the total unless you have entered something into the filter box or
have View -> Unread Only/View -> Flagged Only on.

Unread Only is an option under the View menu. It simply removes all of the
read messages from the message list, leaving only those you have not read.
Of course, the others stay, you simply need to deselect the option to see
them.

You'll find that if you enable this option, the "items displayed" number at
the bottom of the window should match the number in parentheses for that
folder.
