Numbering in Word

sue

I am having difficulties with Word and numbering. On a
two page document, I have items numbered. On the second
page, the numbered text items start with #10 and are
indented and are not aligned on the left edge. See #10
for an example of how it is appearing. I would like for
the text to not be indented. I would also like all of the
lines to be aligned on the left edge. It worked fine on
numbers 1-9. Thanks for your help!

Sue,

You may be able to clear things up by simply shifting to a
font like Times New Roman if your are currently using
Courier.

The skewed formatting you see is caused by the space that
thay your two digit number takes up on the line exceeds
the set indent in the defualt numbering format. Since it
won't fit, it jumps to the next indent.

Try applying the ListNum style and modify as follows:
Click Format>Style>Modify>Format>Numbering. Click the
customize button and change the Text position index at to
a larger value (say from .25 to .30 or .35). Click apply.

HTH.

First you should be using a listnum style and avoid using
the Format>Bullets and Numbering Menu command or the
Bullets and Numbering icon.

Sue, although Greg's suggestion may help in a pinch, it's
truly better practice to learn to work using a methodology
that will help avoid problems down the line. Word's
numbering schema is notoriously filled with hangups, many
of them associated with clicking the number button on the
toolbar. Learning how to associate a style with numbering
and clicking the customize tab will net you much saved
time in the long run.
