Numbering indents incorrectly

When I am using numbering in a document everything indents correctly until I get to VIII. For example:
I test
II test
A. test
...
VIII. test
A. test

Every numbering that has four letters and a period, the text proceeding it is indented to far. When I try to back it up, it is deleted.

That's because your first tab position in the paragraph is not far enough to
the right.

The text is skipping the first tab and going on to the second (default) tab
position, because it won't fit between the indent and the tab.

Move your tab position further to the right :)

Cheers

John,
How do I move the indents back to the right? It looks odd the way the formatting is. How do I fix this?

Ah! You are using a multi-level "Outline" list. You did not tell me that
:)

So: You need to set up each level of the list. There can be nine levels,
but you need to configure only the ones you use.

Go into Format>Bullets and Numbering and click Customise...

You should be OK from there. You need to set the indents for each of the
levels you are using.

Normally, we define styles for this, which makes the whole system consistent
and stable, but you may not need those for a single document.

Come back if you have any further trouble.

Cheers
