Numbering of animation on slides

Happy New Year!!

I am a fairly new user to PowerPoint, although I have created several
presentations.

One thing I am struggling with - when you add custom animation to objects on
a slide, PowerPoint inserts a number beside each item. Why is it that some
times these numbers always say '1' and others they are simply in order, ie.
1, 2, 3 etc.

I have created two presentations today, both including custom animation, and
for some reason, this has happened.

Thank you for any help.

The number represent the numbering of on click.
The number will increase until the next on click. So, if you set the first
on click, it will be number 1. If there are custom animation with start:
"With Previous" or "After Previous" after the 1st on click, they will also be
number 1, until a second on click animation is set.

If the 1st animation is "with previous" or "after previous", the number will
be 0 and not 1. Hope this helps.

And if it is a trigger animation, it will change into the picture of a hand ;-)
