Numbering Paragraphs

Everytime I click on the numbering icon in the quick access tool bar, windows shows a message that says "Microsoft Word has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
Any thoughts please?

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair)?
