Everytime I click on the numbering icon in the quick access tool bar, windows shows a message that says "Microsoft Word has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available"
Any thoughts please?

Have you tried repairing the Office installation (via Windows Control Panel > Programs > Programs & Features > Microsoft Office (version) > Change > Repair)?

If that doesn't work, it's possible Word's Building Blocks.dotx file has been damaged. In that case, see: https://support.microsoft.com/en-au/help/925175/error-message-when-you-try-to-use-a-gallery-in-word-2007-the-office-op
The default location for the Building Blocks.dotx file varies. See: http://www.msofficeforums.com/word/13675-word-2007-later-key-data-file-locations.html

Thank you macropod. It seems the repair in Windows control panel has done the trick. Much obliged.
