Numbers automatcally divided by 100 when typed in

Excel 2007 suddenly started dividing imputted numbers by 100! (enter 100 and
it shows 1.00, enter 10 and it shows 0.10, enter 1 and it shows 0.01). I
uninstalled and reinstalled Office 2007 but it appears that the gremlin
remained behind as the newly installed Excel carried on with this puzzling
behaviour. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to get rid of this?

Office button, Excel options, Advanced tab, Editing options, uncheck
"Automatically insert a decimal point".
