"object not supported" error when copying table

I am trying to migrate a new set of tables from a test system to a
live system, in preparation for taking a new module live. However, I
am unable to copy one of the tables into the live system and get the
following error:

"Operation is not supported for this type of object."

I don't see anything "special" about this table, and I haven't changed
any of the defaults.

I receive the same error message whether I use import (pull new table
from test into live system), export ("push" new table to live system
from test system) or simple copy/paste of the object.

any ideas?
