objects or text in tables

When I place an object or text in a table, is it always centred in the row?
I want at the top of the row (assuming the row's several lines deep)but it
always seems to be 'centred' vertically. The only workaround I've found is
'pushing' it up there by hitting return and pushing the cursor down? Is
there a better way?

Hope this is clear :)

Right click on the table cell that you want and choose 'Cell Properties'. Select the
alignment that you want to have from the 'Vertical Alignment' pull down.
