Obtaining the sum of like part no.s from list of part no.s

I have list of part numbers from which I want to have
excel count the number of times each part appears in the
list. what function/formula would I use to do this?

Check out Pivot Table under the Data menu. Select the
column and do a count on the items themselves. For help

one way (formula approach):
=COUNTIF(A1:A1000,"partnumber")

or you may consider using a pivot table to create a report for all
unique partnumbers. Have a look at
