Occasional Lockup problem (corruption?)

N

Noel

Hi. I posted something similar to this recently, thinking
it was corruption, but I got no response. Things have
clarified a bit now, so I hope someone can help. The
problem occurs as an occasional lockup when I try to
delete an object.

I use a backup db which I use to make changes to various
objects which I then export to the working db. When I
export an object that already exists in the working db I
add the suffix New to its name. Then I go into the
working db, rename the existing object with the suffix
Old, then remove the suffix New from the imported object,
so that the db uses it from then on. When Ive done this a
few times, I get a buildup of objects with the suffix Old
and heres where the problem occurs. Every now and then -
about one time in 10, when I right click on the object
name and choose Delete, the system pauses a lot longer
than normal and then gives the message:

The changes you requested to the table were not
successful because they would create duplicate values in
the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data
etc..

If I click on OK, I get the message:

Record is Deleted.

If I click on OK again, I get the first message, then the
second one and so on - back and forth. The only way I can
escape from this situation is to do a ctrl, alt, delete
and choose End Task. Then when I go back into the
database, I get the message:

Microsoft Access has detected corruption in this file. To
try to repair the corruption etc...

So I end up with my target db corrupted. Perhaps Im
causing this myself by using End Task but there is no
other way of getting out. This only happens occasionaly -
not every time. Once Ive made a copy of the db using the
backup, I can go in and delete the object with no
problem. Has anyone any idea whats going on here? BTW,
yesterday I loaded the latest XP and Jet engine service
packs onto this XP/2002 machine and Ive had this problem
three times today already. Twice when I tried to delete
two different reports and once trying to delete a form.
Also, Ive compacted and repaired the dbs many times now.
I get this on various PCs, all in a networked
environment. I would appreciate any help anyone can give
with this. Thanks, Noel
