Hi Matt,
it's not an Office-related problem. You have to download and install
the ODBC-Connector to the DBMS you want to connect with. For example:
mySQL -> Download the ODBC-Connector from mysql.com:
http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/odbc/3.51.html

Then see wether the Connector is known by the
ODBC-Datasource-Administrator (you will find in the Service/Maintenance
Part of Windows).

Hope that helps...

Kond regards,
Jochen

Check out ODBC Data Sources | ODBC Data Source Administrator | Drivers to
view the ODBC drivers that are installed in your system. This should list
Microsoft Excel driver for linking to Excel, Oracle driver or Microsoft ODBC
for Oracle for linking to Oracle, and SQL Server driver for linking to SQL
Server. If you have the Microsoft Excel driver but not the others, you will
be able to link to Excel but not to Oracle or SQL Server.

I'm having the exact same problem. The Window just disappears afte
selecting the ODBC datasource(s) from the Files of Type drop down menu
However, Linked Table Manager still works as do existing ODBC links.
The problem is, I have no way of creating any new ODBC table links.
The "Select Data Sources" window should appear, but it doesn't. I
this an Office Bug? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling (this tim
without upgrading to SP2) and the problem is still there. It used t
work before. Please help

My old links with the same ODBC connection works, but I can't create any new
ones because after I select the "ODBC Databases" nothing happens. The correct
ODBC driver is loaded.

I have loaded ALL the updates from the Microsoft website and tried the 11/11
suggestion above with no success.

I have the same problem and I am working with microsoft to fix it.

So far, it seems that Norton AV 2006 is interferring with the Office 2003
SP2 odbc connection.

Microsoft suggested I talk to symantec to fix this.

If I remove NAV 2006, I can make it work.

Spent 3 hours with Norton internet security 2006 help if you have 2006 the
fix is disable office plugin, msaccess works just fine after disabling plugin.

will check that out, however, I hate to disable my entire av for office
products because of this (and we know how virus proof office is :>)

thanks for the tip.

How do you disable the office plugins?

In System Works:
- On the menu select Options | Norton AntiVirus | Miscellaneous

....Yep, I'm writing just to confirm that that solved it for me too.
From Norton Main Menu: Options > Norton AntiVirus > Other/Miscellaneous >
....uncheck Turn Office Plug-in on

Thanks, Ice

This is way too advanced for me, but, using Office 2003 and without any
Norton products installed: I simply want to import a *.cvs file into Outlook
Contacts. I get 1) "Could not find installable ISAM" and 2) "An ODBC error
has occurred [Microsoft] [ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and
no default driver specified."
I also cannot import addresses from any source into MS Streets and Trips
2005 (Error msg says "There is a problem...file not in expected format".)
Can any one suggest in laymans terms what I should do, or look for, or
whatever?
Thank you
Kiluco
