Odd & Even headers/footers

I have arather large document that is going to be double
sided printed, however...

I need the first four pages to be individual section
(cover, document ID, sign-off and revision history).

I need the document ID on the back of the cover with the
page numer "A" (automatic) and then sign-off and revision
as B and C (also automatic).

I then want to define ODD and EVEN header and footers for
the rest of the document, BUT NOT THE FIRST FOURS PAGES..

As soon as I check off "Different Odd and Even
headers/footers" in the page layout it sets this for the
entire document, no matter if I select "For this Section
Only" or "from this point forward".

Is this option only for the entire document or is this
supposed to be something I can set for just a section???

I really don't want to put fake page numbers on the first
few pages of my template my template.

Any ideas?

Sabine.

Sounds like either there's something wrong with the way you are inserting
your section breaks, or the selection is not where you think it is when you
select "from this section forward". You can check the status bar to see what
section you are actually in.

You can enable "Different first page" for specific sections, but "Different
odd and even" is an all-or-nothing setting. Sorry.

Thanks.

Perhaps Microsoft can change the settign so that it is on
a per section basis or they should break up the "Page
Layout" tab into "Whole Document" settings and "Section"
settings, the way it is is kind of misleading...

Excellent idea. Send feedback to [email protected] clearly stating the
change you would like to see in Word, the more who ask for it the more
likely to get it.

However, I don't see how this will force you into using fake page numbers,
as you mention. The only problem it should give you is that you have to
duplicate the same text/fields/info in the Odd and Even header in the first
section, a small matter of copy and paste. With a section break between the
first four pages and same as previous turned off for the next section,
behavior should be the same as it would be were you able to set "different
odd and even" from this point forward. (did that make sense?)
