Odd thing happened

My colleague copied and pasted some information from an excel spreadsheet into an outlook email and sent it to someone. The person who received the email was able to right click on the pasted table and open the entire spreadsheet the information came from, even though the sender did NOT attach the spreadsheet, but merely some cells from that spreadsheet. Why would this happen and how could she prevent it from happening again?
