OE cannot open attachments

I use OE 6.0 and Windows 98 and Windows Explorer 6.0
In OE I cannot open attachment sent to me. I know how to
open attachments, yet for some reason all of a sudden they
do not open. This applies to attachments sent in Word,
Explorer, etc.
