OE Compacted Files

I compacted my OE mail, which I will never do again (duh), and all of the
e-mails I had were converted to .dbx files and removed from my OE. I have
tried, using MS support, to bring these e-mails back into my OE but without
much success. I have over 1,000 to recover and only 72 were transfered. I am
using ver. 6 Office 2003. Any suggessions from those in the know?

Thanks...

Sorry, but "compacting" is simply an ongoing maintenance procedure which
removes the space allocated/occupied by deleted messages. Your problem
was created by something else you did. Also, Outlook Express is not part
of the Office application suite. Perhaps the folks in the OE group would
have some suggestions.

Thanks Bob. I have no idea what else I may have done. When the compact menu
poped up I was in the middle of something else and juet clicked ok. Never had
the problem before. The good folks at OE weren't any help.

Thanks for your time and input.

You didn't happen to archive old messages or something like that? I
don't use OE frequently enough to know all the features.

I addition to Bob I's post that compacting is a Outlook Express maintenance
tool.

By design, Outlook Express stores all email in *.dbx files. So your
compacting did not convert your email to *.dbx files. You may want to check
Outlook Express, Tool, Maintenance tab to see what options you selected when
you compact a *.dbx file. Possible that a DBX file viewer/reader may be able
to recover email from a *.dbx file where Outlook Express cannot. A Google
search for: DBX file reader will return a number of choices.

Don MI... Thank you for your help. I found an OE Viewer that allowed me to
copy the e-mails back to where they belong. I checked and there are no
options checked in the maintenance section.

Thanks again...
