OE deletes messages when compacting folders, any way to recover?

My boss has a bad habit of keeping large numbers of email messages in his
inbox. Many of these contain large attachments. Several months ago, he lost
several months of messages when compacting folders. It's done it again. I
have warned him about keeping his inbox clean.

Why does it delete messages? I have never heard if OE doing this. Second, is
there any way to recover the deleted messages.

You need to post in the Outlook Express newsgroup. This is for Outlook.
But, you nailed it. As long as he continues to keep his inbox full as a
storage space, he'll have that problem.

This comes up countless times in the OE newsgroups, so check there.

If the copy of OE is up to date with patches, then a copy of the mail
folders will be found in the Recycle bin.....
OE compacting should not damage data unless it is interrupted by the user.

And BTW, this newsgroup is for support of Outlook
97/98/2000/2002/2003/2007 from the Office suite of products. Outlook
Express is actually a separate program despite the similar name.

For help with your OE questions, try an OE newsgroup such as
microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6_outlookexpress (for OE 6), or
an OE help website such as http://insideOE.tomsterdam.com. If you're
accessing the Microsoft newsgroups through the MS Product Support
Services "Community Newsgroups" web interface, click
http://www.microsoft.com/communitie...px?dg=microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general
Good luck!

First, you're asking in the wrong newsgroup. This is for Office Outlook,
you want microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general

When Outlook Express compacts its mesage store, it puts copies of the
pre-compressed folders into the Recycle Bin. Recover them from there. See
