OE Disappearing mail folders...?

R

R Palino

I recently had my computer crash while in the middle of doing mail with OE
6.
(Nothing big deal about the crash, I probably had too many things going on
at once, and hadn't rebooted for a day, etc.)

When I *did* reboot and re-open OE, some of the mail folders had
dissappeared!

These are local folders where I had seperated some of my business email etc.

I used the import feature and some of them reappeared....however, a bunch of
them did not.

I can *see* the folders on my hard drive...so I know I didn't lose them.
They are sitting there at:

G:\Application Data\Identities\{E....snip...4}

How do I get these folders to re-appear in Outlook Express?

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

As long as the dbx files are in the message store, you can get them back
manually. Do this for each one.

In Windows Explorer, click on the file and drag it to the Desktop. Open OE
and create a folder with the *exact* same name as the one on your desktop.
***Copy a message from any folder to the new one. You MUST do this.*** Close
OE. Go back to Windows Explorer and Click Desktop and drag the folder from
the Desktop to the OE store folder that you clicked on to reveal the .dbx
files. Prompt - "Do you want to overwrite......."? Click Yes.

And if the DBX files aren't there how about a DBT file? This is a copy of
the DBX file before the compaction started. FollowBruce's directions about
creating a folder in OE, but after accessing the folder and closing OE,
delete the new DBX file and then rename the DBT file to a DBX file.
