OEM version upgrade..... license question.

Bertram

I have an OEM version of Office 2000 Professional and I am planning on
upgrading to the next available version.

If I replace my current PC with a new one in 2 years, will the license for
the Office Professional upgrade program allow me to install it on the new PC
or does the license prevent me from doing so since the original Office 2000
Professional program was an OEM version?

Thanks for the help.

Bertram,
To be specific, oem versions of Office are sold with the system, and can
only be installed on the original. They are non transferable as a qualifying
upgrade (license) purchase of a newer version. You will need to either:
1. Pay less money upfront for another oem version of Office.
2. Pay more money for a full version that will qualify as an upgrade later.
Thus getting into the range of pricing for an oem version. This approach to
Office upgrading is well worth the expense if you plan on using it into the
future. For retail product(s).
As well, you will have the original installation media owned by you, not the
oem.

Hi Bertram,

On installing a MS Office 2003 upgrade product
it will look for an installed copy of a qualifying
product http://microsoft.com/office/howtobuy
either installed, or for a Microsoft Office 2000
product CD.

As Chris mentioned, you generally cannot move
the Office 2000 OEM copy to another computer but
you can use the CD as a qualifying product for the
upgrade.
