OEM XP

If I install an OEM version of Windows XP from Dell on a
non-Dell PC, would that prevent me from installing
software? I installed XP which seemed to go fine but
have tried to install Office 2000, 2003, MS Streets &
Trips, and Partition Magic and all of them bombed out
with errors. Downloaded software installs fine but not
ones on CD. Any ideas on the issue here?

I don't see what this has to do with Office, but still...

I'm very surprised it installed. Dell BIOS-lock their installations with the
service tag number you see in the BIOS. If the BIOS doesn't have that tag,
then Windows shouldn't/won't install.

You are also in violation of the licence agreement (EULA) you agreed to when
you purchased the system. An OEM licence is non-transferable - it is forever
tied to the system it was sold with. You may not sell, gift, or otherwise
transfer said licence /unless/ you also transfer *ALL* the hardware it was
connected to at the point-of-sale.
