Office 2000 Family Product

I found a "Kitchen" application on the Office Update site available for
download but when I tried to run it, I rec'd a message stating, "setup has
detected that you do no have an Office 2000 Family Product installed on this
machine. Before this download can be installed you must first install an
Office 2000 Family Product. To find out which products are part of the
Office 2000 Family, go to
http://officeupdate.microsoft.com/info/o2kprods.htm. However, when I go
there, I cannot find anything relating to a "family product." HELP! Thanks
Hope

Do you have Microsoft Office installed at all? If so, what version?

The term "Office family" is generally used for:

Word
Excel
PowerPoint
Access
Visio
Outlook
Project
FrontPage
Publisher

When you say it was a Kitchen application, do you mean it was a template of
some sort? What did it do?

If it is a template, you need to have the program installed that uses that
type of template. For example, if it is the Kitchen Remodel Cost Calculator
spreadsheet
(http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC010186461033.aspx), you'll
need Microsoft Excel to use it.

Hope that helps--

I have Office Standard Edition 2003 installed. I use WORD, EXCEL, etc. every day. The application is "kitchen.exe" and it is for organizing recipes, etc. Thanks for your help.

Could you also include the link to the web page where you found it?

Found it. Kitchen.exe is listed on the download site as an Outlook 2000 /
Outlook 2002 application. You have Outlook 2003.

That's probably the issue.

Are you saying that because I have a NEWER version of Outlook, I can't use an
application for an earlier version? Doesn't make sense.

That's a good question, but it's very possible. There are definite
differences between the versions of Outlook, because they make changes and
improvements in the software all the time, and they cannot possibly test
every single template, add-in and application for compatibility. That
particular download is probably this: a self-extracting installation EXE
file that puts stationery in your Outlook. If the location or registry
entries for stationery have changed since the last version of Outlook (for
example), the installation application wouldn't work.

You'll note that most of the downloads there are very specific about the
version numbers they work with.

You might try searching google for some freeware that would accomplish what
you're hoping for--

There is a file contained in the installer that looks for a specific version
.. Use WinZip (other zip apps except the native windows one may also work) to
extract the files from the exe and set it up manually.

I haven't looked at that file, but it likely contains a pst (along with the
version checker file) - if so you'll need to add it to your profile and
install forms. See http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/publish_form.htm for
general instructions that work for many of the apps distributed in a pst.

BTW, what is the url to the program? I tried
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...0C-F8A2-4D0D-925B-5E54DAEBD354&displaylang=en
which I think is the one Susan found and it installs just fine for me - on
outlook 2003. (The Ol98 version installed fine too.)
