Office 2000 Playing Up

Hi

My Office 2000 software isn't functioning correctly and I wondered if
somebody could offer a few suggestions as to why.

* Often when I double click my desktop icon Office refuses to launch.
* When I click send and receive nothing happens
* Often my pc won't shutdown and I get a message saying Outlook.exe hasn;t
closed, even though I have physically shut it down
* When I look in Windows Task Manager under Processes, I see that I have
maybe three or four Outlook.exe listed.
* I am getting no end of Timeouts when I try to receive e-mails but there is
nothing wrong with my connection.

Does this sounjd familiar to anyone?

Hi again

I guess nobody can help with this problem. I've posted it a few times now. I
would REALLY appreciate somebody's help because the malfunctioning icon is
proving a real headache! Basically, I click on the Office icon and it
doesn't launch the application. Any ideas? Anyone?

Your computer is likely the host to malware or viruses. Do you have an
up to date anti-virus software, a firewall, and scanned it recently for
installed malware, trojans and keyloggers?

Hi Bob

I am running Norton Antivirus 2004 and the Windows XP Firewall. As well as
that I run Spybot and Adaware SE Personal every week.

I'm not even sure what keyloggers are! Do you think I need to add any other
software or update Norton? How can I stop trojans and keyloggers?

That sounds like you seem to have the bases covered for malware and
viruses. Now if you select the Outlook shortcut in the menu and click
only once(so as not to inadvertantly start multiple copies), does it
show up in task manager? Also is Outlook setup to properly communicate
with your ISP's mail server? This info will be specific to your
particular ISP and account. You will need to contact them for this info.

Yes, when I click once outlook only appears once. If it doesn't launch first
time, I tend to click it again and again. This could be the problem. Thanks
for your help.

If being patient resolves the issue, then you are good to go, otherwise
please check the settings for the ISP info.
